KOH Physical Therapy Team

Davis Y. Koh, DPT, MBA, GCS, CSCS
Physical Therapist

Dr. Koh is a sports and orthopedic physical therapist with over 14 years experience.  He earned his B.S. degree in Physiological Sciences from the University of California at Los Angeles, as well as his Master and Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California.  In doing so, Dr. Koh became the youngest graduate ever to earn an advanced Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy in USC’s history.  While at USC, Dr. Koh served on the faculty as a Teaching Assistant in Orthopedics.  In 2007, Dr. Koh earned a Master in Business Administration from USC’s Marshall School of Business.

Dr. Koh’s career began as a staff physical therapist at UCLA Medical Center specializing in orthopedics, cardiac and neuro-rehabilitation.  He was then accepted to the prestigious Kaiser Permanente Orthopedic Residency Program where only six residents are accepted each year in Southern California.

Dr. Koh is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), a worldwide organization and leading authority on sports conditioning.  In addition, Dr. Koh holds the position of State Director of California for the NSCA, overseeing more than 3,000 members in California alone.  Dr. Koh is currently the only physical therapist certified in Active Release Techniques and Graston Techniques in Orange County*.  In addition, Dr. Koh is one of very few physical therapists certified as a Russian Kettlebell Instructor (RKC) to teach/instruct in kettlebell training. His extensive training over the years has included studying different treatment techniques originating from Russia, Norway, France, and Australia.

In addition to his sports/orthopedic credentials, Dr. Koh is also a nationally Board Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist (less than 1% of all physical therapists in the U.S. have earned this distinction).  This distinction is earned, in part, by demonstrating years of experience and expertise in age-related diseases and injuries common to the geriatric population.

Dr. Koh has been invited as a guest speaker for various organizations including the University of California- Irvine Dept. of Sports Medicine, multiple NSCA State Conferences, medical/nursing schools overseas, and the California Physical Therapy Association.  Topics have focused on his expertise in shoulder, back, hip & knee injuries using soft-tissue techniques, stretches and kettlebell training as well as business development.

In addition to working with individual athletes from the NFL, NBA, WTA, AVP, LPGA, Canadian National Track & Field Team, and collegiate teams from the U.S. & Canada, Dr. Koh has enjoyed being a member of various medical teams for organizations including the Ironman Triathlon World Championships, Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) Tour and the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Tour.  Dr. Koh is proud to have served on medical teams at various U.S. Olympic Training Centers working with athletes from Team USA Weightlifting, USA Beach and Indoor Volleyball, USA Boxing, and USA Tae Kwon Do.

Dr. Koh specializes in soft-tissue injuries, sports biomechanics and in stabilization exercises especially for the shoulder, back, hip, and knee complex.  Because of his expertise, Dr. Koh is currently contracted by the U.S. Government to serve as an expert witness for pending government lawsuits/litigation.  Dr. Koh was elected by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) to become a member of the Specialization Academy of Content Experts (SACE).  The SACE is responsible for writing the questions for all National Board Specialty Examinations given by the American Physical Therapy Association.  Dr. Koh was recently awarded one of the “Best Physical Therapists in Southern California” by Best of LA Television Series as seen on KCAL9/KTLA5 Television Stations in Los Angeles.

Jess Dyrenforth
Neuromuscular Therapist

With over fifteen years of experience as a professional action sports athlete Jess Dyrenforth is acutely aware of the stress and injuries that can come from pushing the body to its limits. As the wear and tear on his body accumulated Jess started to take in interest in what he was doing to his body and how he could repair it.

Jess grew up in London England before moving to Southern California over eighteen years ago. Splitting his life between two different cultures helped to give Jess the foundation to ask questions and look for answers from a global perspective. The treatments that Jess received in places like Thailand, Japan, Australia, Korea, Great Britain, Brazil and China all had a profound influence on the way that he would form his own ideas about healing.

It is clear that the passion and energy once devoted to pushing his body to its physical limits have now been redirected into learning how to heal the body and return it to a place of optimum health. His background makes him uniquely qualified to identify and intimately understand the special needs of his clients. It is Jess's goal to work with each client, identify their unique needs and then come up with a comprehensive plan to take them to their next level of wellbeing.

Jess Dyrenforth is a Holistic Health Practitioner. His training and education include: Advanced Circulatory and Sports Massage, Deep Tissue Manipulation, Shiatsu, Thai Massage, Sports Injuries of the Shoulder, Knee and Ankle, CranioSacral, Reiki, Swedish Massage, Reflexology, NeuroMuscular Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy and MyoFascial Release

Jess was named Best Masseur of 2008 by OC Weekly.

Rick has over 13 years of experience in Rehabilitation and Fitness. He started his career as a Physical Therapy Assistant in the U.S. Navy in 1994. This experience provided a solid foundation in which he was able to build upon. Rick acquired a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology and minored in Business Administration with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship from the University of Texas at El Paso. He continued his education at California University of Pennsylvania where he acquired a Master’s of Science in Human Performance with an emphasis in injury prevention and knee rehabilitation. In addition to his formalized education and practical experience Rick also holds post-graduate credentials as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (NSCA) and as a Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM). Rick has also been fortunate to undertake internships at Athletes’ Performance, The Institute of Human Performance, and at the Army’s Human Performance lab.

Rick can handle any fitness or sports related goals. However, he does specialize in Golf and Running performance as well as individuals experiencing chronic low back and knee pain.

“I greatly enjoy the experience of rehabbing, reconditioning, and improving performance of the people I work with. I pride myself on not only being a Strength/Fitness Coach and Therapist but an educator. I want to not only get my people to their fitness/athletic goals but to teach them how to maintain them long after I’m out of the picture (it is unlikely that I will get the opportunity to work with one person forever). My ultimate goal is to teach my clients and patients to the point where they no longer need me. This philosophy has produced much success over the past 12+ years and I hope it produces even better results in the future.”
